Aperture’s role in providing resources to build a Warehouse Execution System

BACKGROUND

In an era driven by same day deliveries and unprecedented e-commerce, warehouse operations have never been more important. A distribution and fulfillment systems integrator, the client recognized an opportunity to enhance their operations and competitive advantage further by developing a bespoke Warehouse Execution System (WES).

CHALLENGES

Traditional Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) often segregate tasks, leading to fragmented operations. Our client partnered with us to achieve something different and superior. A system that combined warehouse control with tasks typically managed by a WMS was needed. Additionally, it was vital that the system be adaptive enough to ensure the efficient handling of high-velocity orders, with specific delivery timelines, whether channeled through fully automated or semi-automated distribution centers.

SOLUTIONS

Collaborating closely with the client’s VP of Software, we delivered vital resources to the project by providing solution development around the building and scaling of the project team. Deploying our expertise from personnel to project management, we supported the creation of the WES with:

  • Integrated Control & Management:

    • Seamlessly merging warehouse control with WMS tasks, THE WES transformed order planning, intelligently releasing tasks, synchronizing ongoing work, and continuously re-prioritizing for optimal process flow.

  • Scaling & Flexibility:

    • Whether semi-automated or fully automated, the system adapts to diverse distribution center requirements, ensuring efficient order handling.

  • Sophisticated Features:

    • The system delivers adaptable software integration, modular hardware configurability, multiple deployment options, and advanced container management.

  • Intuitive Design:

    • Aperture's expertise in UX/UI development ensured the system was user-friendly, easy to learn, easy to deploy and featured a visually appealing, 3D graphic interface.

  • Advanced Development & Analysis:

    • Utilizing software development and data science, our team was able to reinforce the system’s technical robustness and ensure that vital analytics were easy to collect, view, and evaluate.

RESULTS

Partnering with our client led to the creation of a custom WES that set new industry benchmarks. Our client has now deployed their WES in the field with customers, further demonstrating their value proposition to their own clients. With this new system in place, the company is better positioned to address the dynamic demands of the modern warehousing and supply chain industries.
